The Journey of Katlin & Ruth’s Custom Hand-Knotted Jude Rug

The Journey of Katlin & Ruth’s Custom Hand-Knotted Jude Rug

The Journey Begins Every hand-knotted rug is a work of living art. For Katlin & Ruth, we are weaving twin masterpieces, side by side — crafted with patience, skill, and soul.

Video auto-plays on scroll (muted). Tap “Turn on sound” to listen.

We’ll continue updating this journey as Katlin & Ruth’s rugs move through each stage: knotting, trimming, washing, sun-drying, and finishing. Stay tuned for their transformation.

Step 1

Preparing the Warp

The foundation threads are stretched and aligned on the loom. This tensioned base will hold thousands of hand-tied knots in perfect order.

Step 2

Setting the Loom

Once warped, the loom is checked for even tension and straight lines so the pattern will stay true from the first knot to the last.

Step 3

Preparing the Yarn

Color-matched wool is readied for weaving. Each skein is checked for strength and consistency—the palette for both rugs comes together here.

Step 4

Hand-Rolling the Yarn

We call her Amma—she untangles yarns all day, every day. Yarn is wound into smaller balls so the weavers can knot smoothly without tangles, a quiet step that speeds up the loom work.

Step 5

Knotting Begins

Meet your artisans Ashok & Murdhar—they have started tying knots row by row. Guided by the full-scale design map clipped behind the warp, the motif emerges thread by thread.

Important: Knotting Is Underway

With knotting started, the pattern will now grow steadily across the loom. We’ll share progress bands as the field and borders take shape, followed by the finishing stages.

Now: Knotting Next: Shearing Then: Washing Sun-Drying Stretching Binding Final QC

We’ll keep adding photos and clips as new rows are completed.

Shearing

After knotting, the pile is leveled for a refined surface and crisp design.

Step

Washing

A careful wash softens the wool and brightens the colors.

Step

Sun-Drying

The rug dries naturally in sunlight, setting colors and fibers.

Step

Stretching

Stretched to perfect dimensions so it lies flat.

Step

Binding

Edges are bound and secured for durability.

Final Step

Final Quality Check

Each rug is inspected before shipment to Katlin & Ruth.

Thank you, Katlin & Ruth, for letting us share the journey of your hand-knotted rugs.
