The Journey of Katlin & Ruth’s Custom Hand-Knotted Jude Rug
We’ll continue updating this journey as Katlin & Ruth’s rugs move through each stage: knotting, trimming, washing, sun-drying, and finishing. Stay tuned for their transformation.
Preparing the Warp
The foundation threads are stretched and aligned on the loom. This tensioned base will hold thousands of hand-tied knots in perfect order.

Setting the Loom
Once warped, the loom is checked for even tension and straight lines so the pattern will stay true from the first knot to the last.

Preparing the Yarn
Color-matched wool is readied for weaving. Each skein is checked for strength and consistency — the palette for both rugs comes together here.

Hand-Rolling the Yarn
Yarn is wound into smaller balls so the weavers can knot smoothly without tangles — a quiet, careful step that speeds up the loom work.

Important: The Core Weaving Hasn’t Started Yet
We’ve completed the foundation work — loom preparation, yarn dyeing, and rolling. The real magic begins next: knotting, followed by finishing stages.
We’ll update this page the moment knotting begins so you can watch the pattern emerge row by row.
Knotting
Artisans tie thousands of knots row by row — the motif emerges like a painting in threads.
Shearing
After knotting, the pile is leveled for a refined surface and crisp design.
Washing
A careful wash softens the wool and brightens the colors.
Sun-Drying
The rug dries naturally in sunlight, setting colors and fibers.
Stretching
Stretched to perfect dimensions so it lies flat.
Binding
Edges are bound and secured for durability.
Final Quality Check
Each rug is inspected before shipment to Katlin & Ruth.

Thank you, Katlin & Ruth, for letting us share the journey of your hand-knotted rugs.
